The Knox County Highway Department is responsible for paving, repair, striping and related activities. The Highway Department may be called upon to remove debris, trees or other obstructions. The Highway Department is also responsible for county roadside ditches and soils, as well as cleaning inlets and dry wells. During the winter, the department is responsible for snow removal and plowing. The Knox County Highway Department also makes, installs and maintains signs.
The Transportation Department is administered by an appointed county engineer and is broken down into administrative, engineering, and maintenance functional areas. While the functional areas provide distinct services; collaboration and coordination throughout the department, with other county departments and external agencies is standard operating procedure in service delivery.
