Program Approach

Participants undergo structured treatment, frequent drug testing, case management, and regular court appearances. The program emphasizes accountability, recovery support, and behavior change, offering individuals the opportunity to rebuild their lives while reducing recidivism.

Referrals to the Knox County Drug Court can be made by:

  • Judges – Referring individuals from their courtroom.
  • Prosecutors – Identifying eligible individuals as part of case resolutions.
  • Defense Attorneys – Advocating for clients who may benefit from Drug Court services.
  • Probation Officers – Recommending Drug Court for individuals on supervision.
  • Potential Participants – Individuals may refer themselves for a Drug Court evaluation to determine eligibility.

All referrals are subject to eligibility screening based on risk level, treatment needs, and legal criteria.

The Impact of Drug Court

  • 125 graduates have successfully completed the program.
  • Those graduates were originally facing a total of 391 years of incarceration, which would have cost taxpayers $7.5 million(based on Indiana DOC cost estimates).
  • Instead of being incarcerated, these individuals have remained in the community, found recovery, and contributed to the local economy.
  • Participants in Drug Court have become better parents to 220 children in this community, breaking cycles of addiction and fostering healthier families.

The program is more than just cost savings—it is about saving lives, strengthening families, and healing the community.
